The Breaths in Between is a new musical development that asks what is missing from our theatre stages when it comes to stories of love and connection*. We want to explore how we can tell stories in  ways that expand the musical theatre canon and, in doing so, create moments of familiarity, movement and response in individuals who do not often see their experiences represented on musical theatre stages. We will be specifically looking at telling stories about LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian. Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q*eer, Intersex and Asexual) and BIPoC (Black, Indigenous and / or People of Colour) individuals, as well as individuals with disabilities and diverse body types, as we feel these are areas where musical theatre lacks representation and nuance.

This development will be collaborative in nature and will involve a small group of writers / composers / lyricists working with a creative team and cast to develop a work that responds to the project outline. 

*Stories of love and connection could explore the connection between partners, lovers, friends, family or one’s connection with themselves.

We are looking for enthusiastic and innovative performers who are passionate about storytelling, development and representation. Our actors will work closely with our creative team and writers to workshop material from the initial development process into a new concept musical. We are looking for people who believe in the potential of musical theatre to tell new stories about love and connection, and are excited by the idea of shaping a new musical.

Given the nature of the project, we are specifically looking for performers who do not feel adequately represented by mainstream musical theatre, including people who identify as LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian. Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q*eer, Intersex and Asexual), BIPoC (Black, Indigenous and/or People of Colour), disabled, neurodiverse and/or have diverse body types.
